or . . . Everything you never wanted to know about DrMM and would never ask but are going to find out anyway. So who is DrMM? Well, DrMM's real-life alter-ego is known as Michelle and she's currently a 22 year old senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Why did she choose DrMM as her nickname? Well, for many years her goal in life was to be a doctor, so that's where the doctor is from. The two M's are her initials. Okay, maybe she didn't pick the most creative nickname in the world but it's the one she's used since she got on-line. Michelle originally attended Creighton University in Omaha, NE but transferred to UNL her sophmore year. Why? Well, Creighton had a plan that would allow incoming freshman to automatically be accepted into their Medical school if they got a 3.5 GPA. Michelle quickly realized that in order to get that 3.5 she would have to spend her entire life studying, which is something she's not fond of. So she switched to UNL hoping that a high GPA would be easier to get there. However, upon taking organic chemistry those delusions quickly came to an end. After being undecided for a few months she decided that, since she liked to read and had done well in all her English classes with less studying, she'd become an English major. Her parents comment: "Have a backup plan." Then, when she was told that all English majors had to have a minor, she decided to get a History major to go along with her English major. She's currently come to the conclusion that being a History major is more fun. So much fun in fact, she's pondered going to graduate school and eventually getting a PhD. so she can be a "doctor" that way. But since her parents won't pay for graduate school she's going to join the real world first. Doing what? Well, maybe going to Japan and teaching English for a year or two, or perhaps becoming a content editor for a website. There was an ad on the History Channel's website for a content editor that she wanted to apply for, but since she doesn't graduate until May 2001 she decided that they'd never hire her anyway. She currently has a part-time job working on a nameless University departments webpage. Hint: it's not History or English (although those do need work). The pay isn't great ($5.90/hr -- just raised from $5.65) but the job is easy (yay!), she likes her boss (bigger yay!), it's working on websites (biggest yay!). She's worked there since March of '99 and has decided it's her favorite job so far. Of course, since the others were all in retail that's not hard. Useless facts about Michelle: She was at one point in time both a trained lifeguard and a trained EMT although those both have expired now. Family-wise she has one brother (married), one sister (married with the cutest baby son, Eli -- no she's not biased), and two perfectly married parents. She was originally born in Michigan but since her father is an engineer she trekked through Illinois and Kansas before settling in (small town) Nebraska in 1990. She's desperatly sick of Nebraska but must wait until she graduates to leave. She used to be a Christian, but is more of an agnostic at the moment much to her families dismay. . . Michelle fully admits to being an Internet addict. As she says, "I got on the Internet my freshman year of college and haven't been able to get my fingers unglued from the keyboard yet." You can find her alter-ego DrMM either on the sorcerynet IRC channel #alt-mmpr, as #9689360 on ICQ, or by e-mail at drmm@fuuko.com. Television-wise she watches Buffy and Angel fairly regularly and thinks that Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was the best Star Trek ever. She wishes she got the Sci-Fi Network so she could watch Highlander reruns (stupid Time Warner). She spends lots of time watching TLC, The History Channel or the Discovery Channel but her favorite channel is The Cartoon Network and she adores "The Powerpuff Girls. Other than the Internet, Michelle has two main hobbies. Watching anime and reading books. She usually spends 90% of her paycheck getting her latest anime or book fix. Either that or buying new shelves to put her new books and anime on. . . . See, I said you'd learn more than you wanted to know. |
