The Cult of the Otaku

I admit it, I love anime. In fact, I'm addicted to it. What is anime you may ask. Anime is the Japanese word for animation. In other words, anime is Japanese animation. Unlike traditional American animation, Japanese anime is not just for children. Anime is designed for all age groups from small children to adults. There's even animated porn (called hentai -- and no, I don't watch that).

Why anime? Well, I've always loved cartoons. I mean, all my other classmates were watching 90210 and I sat watching Looney Toons. So, when one of my Internet friends kept talking about this show called Sailor Moon and it started airing on the Cartoon Network I decided to see what she loved so much. My first reaction? This is the most idiotic thing I've ever seen. But for some reason I kept watching. I slowly went from "this is stupid" to "I want to find out what's going to happen next" to "This is the greatest show on Earth." Then the Cartoon Network started airing Dragonball Z and I discovered that I liked it too (although not as much as Sailor Moon). I rented a few different videos and discoverd I liked most of those. So, I started going to the local anime club . . . Now I'm a full fledged otaku (um, the anime equivalant of fanboy -- or fangirl in my case).

Below you'll find a list of the anime I currently own. It comes in three different formats: 1) fansubs (subbed by fans) 2) commercial anime (done by professional companies) and 3) highly illegal copies of commercial anime that I've gotten from friends or copied from rental tapes. Hey, I know it's illegal, but I'm a poor college student and I can't afford $30 a tape for every commercial anime and as it is 90% of my income goes to buy anime as it is. No, I'm not going to make you copies :P If you want anime I suggest going to my friend ChibiKris' Fansub's for copies. The ones in bold are series I really like, although I don't have much anime I don't like. . . .
