Buying Doujinshi for Newbies
For
the newbies:
Q:
What is a doujinshi?
A: A doujinshi is a Japanese fan produced comic
book or a text story. They're usually very high quality and printed,
not photocopied.
Q:
When you say Ron/Harry in the pairings section, does that mean
that Ron and Harry are gay?
A: Yes. That's either called yaoi (anime fandom)
or slash (most TV and movie fandoms). The first person is on top
(seme) and the second person is underneath (uke). Yaoi doujinshi
is very popular in Japan just as slash is popular at home.
For
those who already knew the answer to those questions and thought
they were silly:
Q:
I'm looking for a Snape/Snakecane doujinshi by OTP. Can you find
it for me?
A: Um, no. You can ask one of the other doujinshi
stores that I listed here but I can't
help you.
Q:
Can I buy one of your doujinshi?
A: If it isn't on the For
Sale page, it isn't for sale. If you have something great
and wonderful to offer me (a million dollars would be nice), I
might consider it. If you think you have something I might be
interested in, take a look at my wishlist.
Q:
Can I use the images?
A: No -- especially not to make layouts. Stealing
makes baby Jesus cry.
Q: Why not?
A: Not only did I spend a lot of time scanning
in these images, doujinshi artists make these comics out of love.
They spend a great deal of time to create them, spend their own
money to print them and very rarely make any money. Please respect
their hard work.
Q:
Will you scan the entire doujinshi for me?
A: No. See above.
Q:
I bought a doujinshi. Can you translate it for me?
A: No. My Japanese language ability is very limited
(almost non-existant). I'm afraid that you'll just have to guess.
Q:
How did you get this many doujinshi?
A: Job in Japan + lots of free time = many doujinshi.
Sadly (fortunately?), now that I'm back in the US, I won't be
able to buy nearly as many.
Q:
You know you need help, right?
A: Yes. Why do you think I named this website
"Addiction"?
For
Sale Questions
Q:
How do you decide the price?
A: I debated about that for quite a while. I
have no desire to make a gigantic profit off of other people who
love doujinshi. However, I need to make a bit of money to make
the time & effort of selling them worth it. In the end, I
decided to calcuate a 100 yen to $1 ratio and add $4. Of course,
for doujinshi I consider lower quality then I will lower the price
appropriately. Since I'm back in the US now, I had to spend a
lot of money shipping the doujinshi back with me and the increased
price reflects that. I still think it's quite reasonable compared
to other on-line doujinshi stores.
Q:
How do you ship them? / How do you decide the shipping price?
A: Unless otherwise requested, I will ship using
standard media mail. This is not insured, so if you want me to
ship with insurance, you'll have to pay extra. I will ship worldwide,
however, the shipping price will change for international shipping.
I have no idea how much it'll be, so that will be worked out at
a later date.
Q:
How do I pay?
A: For most doujinshi I will accept Paypal, money
order or US cash (sent at your own risk). Paypal users
please read this: With paypal, since they charge
really high fees in order to have an account that accepts credit
cards (which most people prefer), I've decided to start adding
an extra .50 cent charge to compensate. This applies ONLY
if you're purchasing a single doujinshi. I will not accept
personal checks. In a few cases, I'm willing to trade for things
from my doujinshi wishlist or my amazon
wishlist. However, if you wish to trade you'll need a really
good reason or an item I'm very interested in and you must e-mail
me first.
For
all doujinshi listed as R or NC-17, I require a photo ID proving
you're over the age of 18. This can either be scanned or photocopied
and mailed. I want to be able to see a name and date of birth
clearly. While personally, I think that teenagers over 16 are
more than old enough to understand this stuff, I have no desire
to get involved in any sort of legal trouble or deal with an angry
parent.
Q:
Can I trust you?
A: Uhhhh .... I guess that's up to you? I've
sold a few doujinshi on ebay and have mailed them to strangers
who've e-mailed me from time to time but as far as I know there
isn't any way to prove for sure that I'm honest. Sometimes it
takes me a few days to get around to shipping things but I do
my best to get things done in a prompt and honest fashion.
