Legend of Basara

Legend of Basara, while obscure in American anime fandom (and in Japanese fandom), is a series I enjoy a lot. In fact,I created my very first anime webpage, Star Crossed, about it. Doujinshi from Basara are pretty rare, so I count myself lucky to own eight doujinshi, five by Yumi Tamura herself. If anyone knows of any Basara doujinshi I don't own, let me know. I'd be grateful.

Basaran

Title: Basaran
Circle: Yumi Tamura
Art: B (I love the story, not the art)
Number of Pages: 52

Other Info: Published on August 16, 1997 (Summer Comiket). Basaran features an Ageha side-story, where he thinks about his abused past as a slave. There's a second short story about Asagi and Sarasa as well as some four choma joke sections. The main two stories in this are featured as side chapters in the manga.

Basaran 2

Title: Basaran 2
Circle: Yumi Tamura
Art: B- (SD's are cute, but not an entire book of them)
Number of Pages: 36

Other Info: Published on December 29, 1997 (Winter Comiket). Basaran 2 features a long SD (super-deformed) side story where Sarasa and Shuri run into each other at yet another hot spring. Sarasa faints, Shuri rescues her, much embarrassment . . . Cute but the cover is the best part of this book. I think this one is also used as an extra in the manga volumes.

Title: Basaran 3
Circle: Yumi Tamura
Art: B- (another SD book)
Number of Pages: 42

Other Info: Published on August 16, 1998 (another Summer Comiket). Another SD doujinshi. This one features a story where Tatara is going to compete in a karaoke contest (they have TV contests every week). He gets sick, so Sarasa decides to sing instead of him. The other contestents include Ageha, Chacha, Asagi and Shuri (who peeks on Sarasa in the shower). Also in a manga.

Title: Basaran 4 (final)
Circle: Yumi Tamura
Art: B
Number of Pages: 20

Other Info: Published on December 30, 1998 (Winter Comiket). This story is also seen in a manga, volumes 26 or 27 if I remember correctly. It features Shuri, Sarasa and child, Asagi and others.

Title: Yume no Ato (Like Traces of a Dream)
Circle: Yumi Tamura
Art: B
Number of Pages:112

Other Info: Published on August 19, 1990. Actually, I don't think this story is a Legend of Basara story. I can read only very simple Japanese and unfortunatly, Tamura uses the same character templates over and over and over .... However, it's her dj. There are four color pages (and my copy looks like she autographed it). If anyone can give me more info about this dj, I'd appreciate it.

Title: Jade and Rose
Circle: Akane
Art: B+
Number of Pages: 24

Other Info: Published on August 11, 2000. With art that is very similar to Yumi Tamura's own art, this particular doujinshi features a modern day Sarasa, Shuri & their kids. It seems like Shuri has been working too hard. When he gets home from work both he and Sarasa collapse and fall asleep. Their kids cover them with a blanket, then steal jam. Very cute.

Title: Project Ruby Essence
Circle: Akane
Art: B+
Number of Pages: 42

Other Info: Published on December 29, 2000. There are two main stories here. One story is also used in Project Ruby. This story seems to be about Sarasa's thoughts around volume 15. The other story features a young Shuri riding an untamable horse. There are a few other short pieces, mainly comedy.

Title: Project Ruby
Circle: Akane
Art: B+
Number of Pages: 60

Other Info: Published on December 26, 1999. This doujinshi contains one main story and several short pieces, also contained in Project Ruby Essence. There's also another story where the characters look they're putting on a play. Shuri is dressed as a ship's captain . . .

Design and (rather crappy) layout created by DrMM, January 2003. Harry Potter fanart drawn by Emi and is used with permission. Do not reuse her art without permission. Also, please respect the doujinshi artist and do not use any scan from this site for a layout, icon, etc. Harry Potter is owned by J.K. Rowling, Warner Brothers, Bloomsbury and Scholastic. Not me. I wish I did because then I would be very, very rich.
